Founder Statement on Sylvermagret Foundation
With deep humility, gratitude, and a strong sense of duty we founders of SylverMagret foundation bring you our heartfelt greetings. This foundation, born in August 2023, is more than just an organization; it is a living tribute to my late father, Mr. Sylvanus Nnaji, and to my mother, Mrs Magret Nnaji a strong woman whose passion for economic empowerment changed lives and communities. Their lives, which were full of service to others, are the moral and philosophical foundation on which the Sylvermagret Foundation stands today.
Mr. Sylvanus Nnaji, my late father, was a headmaster by profession and a teacher by passion. He firmly believed that education is the most powerful tool for liberating individuals and transforming society. He was convinced that every child, regardless of their residence, background, or circumstances, should have access to a quality education. As a headmaster, he was a strict leader who emphasized discipline, moral values, and inclusivity. He consistently advocated for children from low-income families to remain in school rather than being compelled to work or ignored by society. For him, education was not merely about conveying information; it was about fostering character, confidence, being a moral compass and hope. His dedication to this cause instilled in us a lifelong commitment to fighting illiteracy and promoting educational access as essential for equitable development.
My mother is just as important. Her legacy of strength, organization, and economic vision complements my father’s dedication to learning. In the 1980s, when women’s economic voices were often ignored, she took brave steps to reorganize the Neke women and encourage them to work together on economic issues. These women gained structure, unity, and the courage to speak up for themselves thanks to her leadership. Her important role in setting up Nkwo Neke Market is a lasting symbol of community ownership, grassroots economic empowerment, and long-term jobs. She showed that when women have more money, families do better, kids receive more help, and communities become stronger. We got from her a strong belief that empowerment is the key to long-term development and a catalyst for impactful and sustainable development.
The Sylvermagret Foundation is marrying two strong quintessential legacies together: Education and Empowerment, Knowledge and Dignity, Service and Self-reliance.
Five core values—Empowerment, Inclusivity, Sustainability, Collaboration, and Integrity—guide our work to solve some of Africa’s most important development problems. These pillars guide our actions, partnerships, and long-term goals as we dedicate our time, talent and treasure to fight hunger, support sustainable healthcare, improve biodiversity, and fight illiteracy across the continent.
Empowerment is at the heart of what we do. We believe that people and communities can make lasting changes when they have the skills, tools, and confidence to shape their own futures. In education, this means initiating programs that teach reading and writing, give out scholarships, and offer opportunities for lifelong learning that help people get out of poverty and isolation. In terms of economic growth, it means giving women, young people, and other vulnerable groups the tools they need to start their own businesses, learn new skills, and get access to financial
services. Empowerment is not only what you give that they feel and touch; it is giving them power, opportunity, and choice on purpose.
By adhering to the principle of inclusivity, we ensure that no one falls behind. We lift each other up. The only time to look down is when we want to lift someone up. We put underserved groups first, like women, children, people with disabilities, special needs and rural communities. We empower individuals by promoting gender equity, respecting other cultures, and fostering community-led development. Sustainability guides our long-term plans, as we know that strong systems have a lasting effect. To improve livelihoods, food security, and climate resilience, we support community-based healthcare, preventive care, local ownership, and protection of biodiversity. Working together is at the heart of our mission. By teaming up with governments, communities, schools, businesses, and international organizations, we can use their knowledge and make a bigger difference. Integrity is the foundation of everything we do, making sure that we are open, responsible, and ethical. We will continue to support human dignity and a fair, strong, and empowered Africa in the future.
We honor the memory of our Father and the amazing leadership of a mother who changed the way women participate in the economy. We renew our promise to serve with compassion, courage, and purpose. The Sylvermagret Foundation is not only a look back at the past; it is also a promise for the future. With the help of our partners, supporters, and communities, we will keep making paths of hope, opportunity, and dignity—one life, one community, and one generation at a time given back to society.
